RE: Dogs ... Dogs ... Dogs!!!

I am NOT a dog hater....however, I'm with OP about how others handle their dogs. We camped for a week recently and 3 things happened that irritated the He$$ out of me. 1) neighbor had one dog tied to rope outside their rig and it had barked continuously for 2 hours. I finally had my fill and went over to talk to them. They were sitting in their TT with the door open and the dog was outside. They had ANOTHER dog on the inside. I asked if that (indicating the dog) was bothering them. The woman replied that it did so I answered for her to "do something about it". To her credit, the dog didn't bark the rest of the week. 2) Went to step out of our 5er one morning and had dog poop on the ground outside of the rig.YUCK! 3) Someone in the camp had let their dog loose. It chased a kid on a bike and bit him. I don't know the outcome of this incident. Yes, we could have moved on......(as one suggested). However, we were camping there first, we'd already paid for our time at the camp, and why would someone think that WE should leave when THEY aren't following the rules? Yes -- dog owners DO make me mad. I don't like old poots who don't like dogs, but I've learned how to get along with them.

RE: Dogs ... Dogs ... Dogs!!!

I don't understand why dog owners don't let their dog pee and poop on their own camping lot. They have to walk them on an 18' leash. Most campgrounds require a 6' leash and most state dog laws require a 6' leash. In large campgrounds most mornings I find a dog has peed on at least one of my tires. My summer and winter campgrounds both ban all dogs and they are immaculate. http://bestsmileys.com/peeing/2.gif I'm so happy for you.

RE: Question about 50amp Cheater boxes

we use ours quite often. you need to know how the rig is wired. it takes time to figure which leg to make the 30 and the other the 15. we have to turn off the hot water heater when we use the microwave. we cannot use the washer and the 2nd air at the same time. If yours worked properly, you shouldn't have to turn off anything.

RE: Good Sam Portal

Did you try here? One of my other RV buddies has been logging on through RV.net instead of Good Sams. I'm not sure when they're going to get the problem fixed. Now this is interesting! I clicked your link and it took me to the Good Sam portal. I don't understand it, but thanks.

Good Sam Portal

Is the Good Sam portal to the Open Roads forum dead for good? It sure has been down for a long time.

Ouray to Silverton

I drove my Saturn Vue from Ouray to Silverton and return yesterday because I wanted to see it and didn't want to drive the MH on it. Other than about three places, the road can be traveled by a medium to semi-large MH (there will be those in larger MHs who will also try it, but...) without too much difficulty. Since the road is VERY windey and very steep, I don't recommend that large gasser MHs (like my Itasca Suncruiser 39'er) take this way. It's not so much that you couldn't make it, it's that you will slow traffic down SO much that it isn't worth it. There are only a couple of turnouts in the 24 miles (for other than a car). The views are breathtaking (maybe lifetaking if you don't watch what you are doing!) and well worth the trip. While Ouray is a neat small town with good shopping and sightseeing, Silverton is not. It's located in a pretty valley, but the shopping is limited to essentially one small block. It's a terminus of the Durango-Silverton steam train, thus gets a lt of tourist traffic. So, my advice is that unless you have a well-powered pusher (or well-matched fiver), just take the TOAD and enjoy the view.

RE: Phony Lottery/Death Inheritance Notices

If you figure it out please let me know, I keep hearing from the former deposed King of Nigeria. :) Set up rules in your email program. Very simple. If it's so simple, why don't you describe the process so that we will all know.

Phony Lottery/Death Inheritance Notices

I keep getting emails saying that a relative of mine has died leaving me untold millions, or that I've won the lottery in (name a place) and I have millions waiting for me. Naturally, I've never responded to these spam delicacies, but is there any way that I can keep from getting them? My spam filter sometimes puts them in the spam folder, but frequently does not. Since they are never from the same person, I can't set up a filter (I think I can't anyway) that would stop these from me ever seeing them. Does anyone have any advise?

RE: Colorado Highway 141

On 141 you'll go up 2000' from Slick Rock to a few miles north of Egnar...I've forgotten the name of this grade, but it's a little twisty and definitely uphill. It'll be slow, but not very long, maybe 5 miles. There are (or were)at both the bottom and the top, large signs advising the possibility of cattle on the road...this is open range and apparently this little stretch of road is a main cattle thoroughfare. We saw none, however. I'm presuming the MH/toad and fiver are not in tandem. The fiver will be following the MH, not attached to it, although that would be an interesting sight!

RE: Workamping for Gay Couple?

There is no good answer to this. You will find that most of those who workkamp are much older than you. Many of that generation have built-in prejudices against the gay lifestyle and would not be happy with you around. Trying to disguise your preference would not be healthy - or happy - for you. However, with your skill sets, many private parks would welcome your help. I would think that you could thrive as the only couple in a park. When I was showing dogs, many of the professional handlers were gay (still that way today), yet were accepted by most all because we all had a common love - our dogs. None of us, whether straight or gay, showed any outward personal behavior that could be taken as untoward. I don't think this would apply in the workkamping world. I'm speaking as someone in his 60s. A much younger person may not admit to the prejudice that I've described. Getting them to truthfully admit it, if true, might be tough. The government can regulate who can do what to whom, but it doesn't mean that people will agree or comply. That's an honest answer.

Colorado Highway 141

Can anyone tell me if there are any problems taking a 39' MH/TOAD and a 36' fiver on CO Highway 141 from near Naturita to near Cortez?

Good road, no problem. Some hills, some windy, but where isn't it?

RE: Highway 491

No problem at all, take it. I've taken it several times in my MH and TOAD.

RE: Quality Coaches

Can you help me simplify which brands are are high quality coaches? also, which coaches seem to the best value (quality and price)? I know there are many different opinions - but I'd love to hear them. The lines we are considering: Winnebago Adventurer Itasca Suncruiser Forest River Georgetown Damon Challenger Quality is relative and many would consider the brands you mention as less than quality. That being said, I have an '04 Itasca Suncruiser (the higher priced sister to the Winnie Adventurer) and think it is high quality. It is a gasser and has all the amenities we could've asked for. In the four years we have owned it, we have used it at least 5/8 of that time (over two years) with no serious problems. From what I know, of the four models you list, the Itasca is probably the most costly (or was when I bought it new). This doesn't necessarily make it the highest quality, but I suspect that it may be.

RE: Gas At Safeway

"cumulative" means that after spending $100 four times at Safeway grocery, you will get 10 cent discount on four fuel purchase. I had a glitch that didn't give me the discount on the first card sweep, but did on the second. The station attendant told me that I need to contact headquarters to straight it up. For one dollar and twelve cents ???? Here it means that if I "save" up four times, it will be .40 per gallon cheaper when I fill up. I'm not sure what you are referring to with the $1.12???

RE: Anal Gland Removal in Dogs

Interesting theory that adding fiber will fix the condition. In my experience, more fiber equals a softer (although bulkier) stool and if you want firm stools, a low carb diet is a much better bet. Raw is great, with raw bone in it, but in the kibble realm the most tightening food I know of is Innova EVO. That produces a noticeably firmer stool compared to the raw food with bones in it alone. My two get both and let me tell you, being used to their firm stools makes picking up those stray piles I find pretty gross... its like marshmallow poop! I also fed my Golden Innova EVO and agree about the marked reduction in stool production. However, my dog's coat became thinner and dull. As soon as I took her off the food, her coat returned and it became shiny again. I'd rather pick up more stools than have my dog suffer from some deficiency. All that being said, Innova is generally accepted as being a superior food for dogs. It just didn't work for mine.

RE: Gas At Safeway

Here it was .20 gal off with a $50 purchase. Yeah, but in CA everything is so expensive that regardless of how much is discounted you are still getting robbed!

Gas At Safeway

I went food shopping at the Safeway in Montrose, CO yesterday and after paying, I was told that because I spent over $100, I automatically got .10 per gallon off the normal price. Not only that, but it is cumulative. In other words, if I spend at least $100 on four occasions, I will get .40 per gallon off. I don't know how long this will last or if it is system wide, but I sure like it. You may have to have a Safeway card (which is free), but I'm not sure about that.

RE: House Batteries

Here's a link to Winnebago Manuals and Diagrams. I looked at the Body, 12 Volt Wiring Installation and, on the fourth sheet, it shows the converter behind the 12 volt circuit breaker panel (near the floor) - the outside entertainment center is in that same area. The 2004 'Bagos used Parallax converters, and yours should be the 55 amp 7455 model. They are well known for "boiling batteries dry" in hot weather - the constant 13.8 volt output cause the batteries to "freely gas" at high temperatures. Thanks for the info. I looked up in my manuals and everything is as you've described regarding the converter. I never boondock (although I'd love to), so that can't be the problem. I'll continue to monitor the batteries and will check in a couple of days to see the status. What is really baffling me now is that my new one month old engine battery is going dead every three or four days. Is there something that "transfers" from the house battery that could drag down the engine battery or do I simply have a bad battery? To all who have made recommendations on where to research, thanks, I appreciate it. Since it is a deck mount unit, replacing it with one of the multistage chargers that switch to a lower (float) voltage for long term battery charging is not difficult. However, consideration on the size should include the length and size of the wire from the converter to the battery - it is a pretty long run as I recall. And, do you do much dry camping aka boondocking?

Good Sam Portal

I normally use the Good Sam portal to get on this forum, but for the past three days I've been unable to. Currently, I'm using the Trailer Life portal. Anyone know what is going on this time?
